Nerdy p.s.: Not the 'index poem' referred to in the previous post (this one is way more fun), but an exercise to figure out how to write that one. Constraint imposed: Material taken from my twitter feed over a 24-hour period.

Reports of random creatures stranded in the metro

At the gated village, catfish attempting escape.

What doesn’t kill you

Absinthe, it was once believed. Abstinence before a fight. Balut for the knees. Cannibalism and its distant relative, Criticism-Self-Criticism. A balanced diet, though the protein-carbohydrate ratio is the subject of contention. Of an electric field, the charge and the distance. Of a gravitational force, the mass of two objects and the distance between. The Holy Spirit, if you believe. Of an electromagnet, the intensity of its windings. Lady Justice on your side, or so they say. Kettlebells for the inclined. If lacking courage, St. Augustine of Hippo. Marriage, it seems, but less so for women. O gue, or Grandmother's black chicken soup. Prayer, they said. The rosary as scapular, talisman. Sleep, but not sleepwalking. If social contract, then myth. When threatened by unicorns, a virgin. Vitamin supplements with therapeutic claims or without. If possible, non-exposure to X-rays. Your weapon of choice.  If lacking libido, zinc.

And by that was meant

Mornings I make my escape from "the house of indecision".

Another end-stopped line, though she would rather I enjamb my certainties, the way I straddle the wrought iron fence between the porch and the garden; the low wall between the garden and the road.

Happy easter, and then some

Greatest feast of the year. Dropping by my parents'. Boy, it's hot.

Some of my friends have joined IntPoWriMo, posting a poem a day (or a critique of a poem) since the first of April.  Instead, I'm posting my morning pages: drafts and drills mostly found texts to help me figure out the things one can do to texts and fragments (or what they can do to you--that's more likely). They probably won't make much sense. Sometimes iIt's fun just to mess around. The next few blog entries will be experiments on a text on xanthic acid. Haven't made much progress (as the erasures still make some kind of [the usual] sense or other), but will try applying some of the stuff I'd read about lately and see what yields. The other text I'm working on is Josephine Bracken's "Discription of My Life".

Books in Bed

Wild Iris, Louise Gluck
Grapefruit, Yoko Ono

The latter, strange to the extreme.

-----------------------------

It's one of those days, days you miss friends you never get to see anymore, friends that fall away from your life, and life, you're unsure what it really is all about,  where it's headed, your head, a little bit unscrewed, tilted to an angle, you are afraid it will fall and dangle, un-flatter, your neck, the way you un-flatter yourself so easily, by your every word, every gesture, just another jester ambling clumsily along life's wayside, clumsily like a newborn kitten learning to navigate its way through space and gravity.
